Scope Of Work

The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, began construction of a $265-million expansion in June 2012. The new Orthopedic and Spine Center will enable Christ to be the only local hospital, and one of a few in the country, to have a single-purpose facility with a focus on comprehensive orthopaedic and spine services and research.

Once completed, the new 332,000-square-foot facility, which will be located just south of the main hospital, will physically connect to the current hospital while providing separate access for patients and visitors. The orthopaedic and spine center will include 60 private inpatient rooms; 10 operating rooms dedicated to orthopaedic and spine surgeries, with two shelled operating rooms for future growth; physical and occupational therapy services; imaging services; pain management; physician and administrative offices; and underground parking for approximately 150 vehicles.

TP Mechanical was hired for the Plumbing Contract on this project. We partnered with PIVOTek, a supplier of custom prefabricated units, for development of 60 modular bathroom units, which we installed. This will be the first project utilizing bathroom PODS that are installed on a level grade, thanks to PIVOTek’s innovative flooring technology. The floor will be finished after the PODs are in place to avoid elevation issues.

TP Mechanical also partnered with CINFAB to prefabricate mechanical corridor racks for levels 4 and 5. Other innovative approaches including prefabrication of a zone valve box and head walls in TP Mechanical’s ISO-registered fabrication shop. They were mounted into the hospital prior to walls being installed.  Our team also prefabricated medical gas racks for all patient rooms.

The Christ Hospital has become the nation’s first hospital to be awarded LEED® for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance™ certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).
