Scope Of Work
Restoration and renovation of the long-vacant, 1926-built Union Station into a modern transportation facility for the city of Springfield.
Complete gut restoration of the 120,250 SF Main Terminal building.
24-bay bus terminal.
377-space precast concrete parking garage (70,000 SF).
412 precast concrete pieces make up the Parking Garage and were erected in 25 working days.
Enabling work included demolition of the 93,000 SF Baggage Building.
20′ high x 350′ long Soil Nail wall installed to support tracks prior to Baggage Building demolition.
Vibration monitoring instituted to track changes and stress to neighboring structures.
Hazardous material abatement including asbestos, elevator fluids, petroleum contaminated concrete, lead based paint and oil residue.
Pressure Injected Footings (PIFs) ground improvement system.
Shoofly track used to waterproof the terminal Passenger Tunnel running under the tracks.
Laser scan of the entire Terminal Building created an accurate structural model.
The original historic 54” bronze and marble clock that hung in the station was cleaned, refurbished, and automated by Electric Time Company of Medfield.
Original 1926 terrazzo flooring refurbished and restored in Main Terminal.
