Project Description:
This project involved the construction of two V-22 Repair Facility buildings at the Fleet Readiness Center East at Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station, in Havelock, NC. The buildings will house mission-critical maintenance and repair facilities, equipment and all ancillary utilities for the V-22 Osprey Tilt Rotor Aircraft.
The V-22 Osprey is one of the most versatile and unique aircraft in the naval fleet. Given that fact, the maintenance and repair facilities and equipment were also unique and specialized. W.M. Schlosser, as the Prime Contractor, worked daily in conjunction with the ROICC, the design A&E, and the Bell-Boeing Group to ensure that the facilities being constructed would not only meet the specifications of design but also the complex nature of the equipment that will be housed and the specialized task to be performed in the facilities.
The project included demolition, site preparation, earthwork, pavements, concrete and steel work. Also included was the installation of all underground and above ground service utilities. The demolition of three existing buildings on two separate sites was critical to the operations of the Readiness Center to support the maintenance needs of the Naval Aircraft Fleet. All new construction activities were completed on time without interruption of operations and schedules. W.M. Schlosser had great success in coordinating all demolition and construction activities by utilizing strict scheduling, communication, and cooperation with client practices, thereby eliminating any conflicts with ongoing fleet operations.
