Scope Of Work
There aren’t many more iconic buildings in New York than Hotel Chelsea (also known as The Chelsea Hotel, and The Chelsea) on 222 West 23rd Street. Originally built in between 1883-1885 (a couple of years before the Eiffel Tower was constructed) the boutique hotel has been a destination and home for some of the most famous writers, actors, artists and musicians. Arthur C. Clarke wrote 2001: A Space Odyssey there. Jack Kerouc wrote On The Road there. Madonna lived there. Hotel Chelsea reached NYC landmark status in 1966 and has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1977.
Omnibuild has been selected to manage the overhaul of Hotel Chelsea and get it back gleaming in its original luster and glory by late 2017.
Soon, guests will be able to revel in the echoes of the past, feeling connected to a place in New York City lore. They’ll get to walk the same halls and spend time in the same spaces that Mark Twain, Arthur Miller, Stanley Kubrick, Jackson Pollack, Andy Warhol, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Edith Piaf, Dee Dee Ramone, Sam Shephard, Jean-Paul Sartre, Gore Vidal, Charles Bukowski, Leonard Cohen and Patti Smith did.
