Scope Of Work
Old Dominion Firestopping provided firestopping at mechanical and plumbing through-penetrations, as well as the perimeter fire containment on the 350,000-square-foot, 10-story office building which supported the relocation of MeadWestvaco’s corporate headquarters. The structural steel-framed headquarters building is skinned with precast concrete, glass curtainwall and strip windows. The office building sits atop a 450,000-square-foot, seven-level, post-tension and cast-in-place parking garage.
There are floor to ceiling glass windows throughout the building providing views of the James River. This project was the third in the U.S. to receive a Four Globe certification from the Green Globes.
Completed in 2010, the project finished on time with zero injuries despite the challenging logistics of performing work in a tight, urban environment. Old Dominion Firestopping contracted with Atlantic Constructors and Harmon Glass to perform the work. Whiting Turner was the general contractor.
