Scope Of Work
Nelson Precast provided over 320 architectural precast concrete security bollards used at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. These are the last line of defense between the terminal and a vehicular attack like the one which shut down Glasgow International Airport in 2007, so it was vital that they be strong enough to form an impenetrable barrier to vehicle traffic. High-strength concrete and specially designed reinforcing give these bollards enough stopping power to deflect almost any vehicle. Finish quality was also crucial — 22 million passengers will walk past them every year, and with BWI recently named the world's best airport in its size range, every detail mattered.
Our excellent work on this project was recognized by Parsons Transportation Group and by the Maryland Aviation Administration. Nelson Precast has also provided security bollards for the Edward A. Garmatz federal courthouse in Baltimore, as well as numerous other facilities across the region.
