Scope Of Work

These repeat clients recently relocated to Portland’s South Waterfront, but the existing kitchen and living space in their new condo were dark, outdated, and didn’t match their minimalist style. They wanted a renovation that introduced more light, updated finishes, and new flooring, while still maintaining the home’s original layout and waterfall island surface.

The kitchen island was perfect inspiration for the design our client wanted throughout the home. We started by removing the dark backsplash and upper cabinets and replaced them with textured glass tiles, framed with custom-made cerused oak panels — an element that added interest, but didn’t overwhelm the space. On the back wall we incorporated a floating shelf, moved the range hood, and introduced a fun picture light, along with placing cone lighting above the center island. The latter meant changing out mechanical and electrical, which is always challenging in a condo, but added some much-needed brightness. In both the kitchen and powder room we used simple hardware, but combined it with an elegant drawer and cabinet style to add a feeling of luxury.

When you move into a new home, it’s easy to see all the things you’d like to change. But this space already had a great layout and some smart elements — it just needed a touch of light and some fresh thinking.
