Scope Of Work

spring 2011, J&S a 14,750 square-foot addition for Madisonville First United Methodist Church (FUMC), located Madisonville, Tenn. December 2007, a fire completely destroyed FUMC’s sanctuary. Working alongside architect FUMC Committee, J&S used  design-build approach for a new 8,377 square-foot sanctuary as well as an education wing, both connected to existing .

church’s original budget for this was $2.5 million, but after capital campaign collected a lower amount than expected, church felt $2 million would be a more realistic budget. J&S was able to engineer to meet all church’s functional requirements as well as meeting its budgetary goals.

One concern that was identified early was that new sanctuary would be located on a grave that had been around since Civil War. Church wanted to make sure remains were handled with dignity.  five graves were relocated to a different spot on headstones were built into a newly constructed columbarium. columbarium was built as part this serves as a peaceful place for church to gather remember friends family who have passed away.   

sanctuary can accommodate more than 250 . There is also a large gathering where fellowship can be held both before after . administrative classroom wing includes offices, classrooms, nurseries, as well as a space for large youth gatherings. One of the striking features of the Church is the 25’x20’ window with a gothic arch located at the entrance to the sanctuary. It serves as a landmark for the town and allows ample light into the sanctuary.

The Church held a groundbreaking ceremony to pray over the on August 29, began mid September. Church wanted to hold their Easter new sanctuary J&S was able to before this date make their desire a reality.
