Scope Of Work
Community Asphalt, joint venture member, was awarded the largest interchange project in Miami. Design-Build Finance Project. As with most highway projects, but especially one of this magnitude, maintaining the existing traffic flow is certainly one of the largest challenges faced.
Section 5 of the Palmetto Improvement Program project begun in the Fiscal Year 2009, and involved the construction of a system-to-system interchange between State Road 826/Palmetto Expressway and State Road 836/Dolphin Expressway. Capacity improvements include the reconstruction and widening of approximately one mile of both SR 826 and SR 836, and the construction of 34 bridges.
The project will provide new direct ramps for major movements and collector-distributor (CD) ramps to eliminate existing geometric and operational deficiencies. The District Six TMC (Transportation Management Center) will play a critical role during construction phase, which is set to last about six years, by enhancing its incident management resources along the interchange. The TMC manages these resources, as well as the temporary and permanent ITS.
With the construction of a new direct connects from SR-826 to SR-836, it will be an enhance safety, increasing capacity, and increasing efficiency for motorists using the interchange. Project allows drivers direct access and reduces travel time
Also new bridges over future NW 7 Street and NW 82 Avenue, allowing the provision for future connections underneath the reconstructed highway.
Installation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) cameras and sensors allowing for real-time traffic updates, as well as assisting in the rapid deployment of first responders and Road Rangers to clear disabled and accident vehicles from travel lanes
