Scope Of Work

Preferred Materials provided more than 30,000 cubic yards of concrete for the Golisano Children’s Hospital in Fort Myers, FL.  The seven-story, 128-bed hospital is located at Health Park Medical Center and is part of the Lee Memorial Hospital System.

As is the case with most jobs like this one, it was necessary to work closely with the general contractor, Skanska USA, long before any concrete was delivered to the site.  This project had stringent specifications which called for the design and testing of new concrete mixes, such as one that met a very low shrinkage tolerance which was used in parts of the elevated floor slabs.

The space-constricted job site also provided some challenges.  Accurate scheduling and coordination on the job during pours was critical so Preferred Materials provided Skanska’s management team with a mobile truck tracking app; MYPMI by Truckast. We asked Bob Kramer, Project Executive for Skanska USA, about his experience working with the Preferred Materials team and he said, “One thing that stands out in my mind of the [Preferred Materials] team is the technology that they brought to the job. With the truck app, we knew how many yards of concrete was placed, how many yards were on the way and when the next truck would arrive. This was very beneficial to the team as everybody knew what was happening at any given time.”
