Scope Of Work

The Eads Bridge is the first to cross the Mississippi River in St. Louis. Designed by James Eads and built in 1874, it was the first of its kind in the world. This landmark structure serves two purposes, with vehicles on the upper deck, and two tracks on the lower deck which are utilized for the METRO light rail system. St. Louis Bridge replaced the vehicular deck in 2002 working under a separate contract.
This rehabilitation project is to replace the entire track support system built within the arched main structural elements of the bridge. In addition to the structural steel work, the entire bridge is being painted. First, the original track support system is being replaced with a modern and lighter structure. Also the remaining steel is being repaired. Once this process is complete the same method will be repeated on the other train track.
