Scope Of Work

Project Scope:

Due to increasing demand, JetBlue Airways Corporation desired to construct a new JFK Terminal 5 and become the sole tenant. Peter Scalamandre & Sons was chosen as the Civil General Contractor to prepare the site for building construction without disruption to ongoing airport operations.

The scope of the project called for demolition of existing asphalt and concrete pavement. Soil excavation and removal from site was performed to a variety of specified depths in order to prepare the site for new construction.

New positive drainage installed included stormcepters, catch basins, manholes, piping and water quality treatment devices. The new sanitary system installation included pre-cast concrete structures, a lift station, force main and gravity based piping. New structures and piping were set in place and tied into existing systems, while also adjusting existing structures to grade as necessary. New water main and hydrant fueling systems were put in around the perimeter of the new building. Electrical duct bank, including 5 kV lines, was installed, along with various communications and emergency duct banks.

Placement and careful grading of new PCC and asphalt pavement sections followed. All of the various mix designs and pavement sections met the standards of PANYNJ and FAA. Pavement was then striped according to specific coordinates given. GPS survey technology in conjunction with AutoCAD drawings containing geospatial coordinate data were utilized to accurately perform all horizontal and vertical layout.

Lighting, aeronautical signage and striping according to the standards of PANYNJ & FAA were installed.

Also part of the scope of the project was the complete demolition and decommissioning of the existing hydrant fueling system.
