Scope Of Work
Due to increasing demand, JetBlue Airways Corporation desired to construct a new JFK Terminal 5 and become the sole tenant. Peter Scalamandre & Sons was chosen as the Civil General Contractor to construct a new elevated roadway for landside vehicle access to the terminal without disruption to ongoing airport operations.
The scope of the project called for demolition of existing asphalt and concrete pavement. Soil excavation and removal from site was performed to a variety of specified depths in order to prepare the site for new construction.
Pouring of concrete foundations, steel erection, abutment walls, precast planks & T-beams were all included in the process of constructing the new elevated roadway.
A concrete slab was poured on installed metal decking. Mechanically stabilized walls, parapets, sidewalks, light poles with electric were all installed as part of the scope of this project.
New catch basins, manholes and piping were all installed as part of the new drainage system.
Placement and careful grading of new PCC and asphalt pavement sections followed. All of the various mix designs and pavement sections met the standards of PANYNJ and FAA. Pavement was then striped according to specific coordinates given.
