Scope Of Work
Project Scope:
Due to the deterioration of existing airport pavements and the rerouting of aircraft traffic due to terminal expansion, Delta Air Lines needed to remove and replace Taxilane “KF” Peter Scalamandre & Sons was chosen as the Civil General Contractor to update utilities and pavement without disruption to ongoing airport operations.
The scope of the project called for demolition of approximately 150,000 square feet of existing asphalt and concrete pavement. Soil excavation and removal from site was performed to a variety of specified depths in order to prepare the site for new construction. Full depth replacement & milling operations were implemented.
New positive drainage structures and piping were installed and tied into the existing system. Test cores, test holes and Code 53 call before you dig were all implemented in an effort to test existing soil for quality, determine exact existing pavement thicknesses and properly mark out locations of existing underground utilities.
Placement and careful grading of new PCC and asphalt pavement sections followed. All pavement sections met the standards of PANYNJ and FAA. Pavement was then striped according to specific coordinates given. GPS survey technology in conjunction with AutoCAD drawings containing geospatial coordinate data were utilized to accurately perform all horizontal and vertical layout.
Lighting, aeronautical signage and striping according to the standards of PANYNJ & FAA were also under the scope of this project.
