American Airlines, Inc. chose Peter Scalamandre & Sons was chosen as the Civil General Contractor to install new concrete and asphalt pavement in order to expand their taxiway and add gates 45 &47 to the terminal.

The scope of the project called for demolition asphalt and concrete pavement. Soil excavation and removal from site was performed to a variety of specified depths in order to prepare the site for new construction. Full depth replacement & milling operations were implemented.

New drainage was installed as part of the project including airport rated trench drains capturing runoff and directing it to an existing positive drainage system. New catch basins, manholes and piping we all installed in the new taxiway and gates areas. Also part of the scope was the installation of Oil Water Separator Devices in order to clean stormwater runoff.

New sanitary system installation included pre-cast concrete structures and gravity based piping. New structures and piping were set in place and tied into existing systems, while also adjusting existing structures to grade as necessary.

Placement and careful grading of new PCC and asphalt pavement sections followed. All pavement sections met the standards of PANYNJ and FAA. Pavement was then striped according to specific coordinates given.

Construction of the new taxiway fell under the scope of this project. New concrete panels were installed allowing for planes to travel to and from gates and existing taxiways. Lighting, aeronautical signage and striping according to the standards of PANYNJ & FAA were installed.

Another part of the scope also included the installation of Glycol Treatment Structures in order to clean stormwater runoff of glycol toxins before entering the positive drainage system in place.
