Scope Of Work
Having completed an indoor practice facility for Clemson, University of South Carolina and Virginia Tech, Sherman Construction partnered with DPR on the Indoor Athletic Facility for the University of Georgia.
The 102,000-sq.-ft. Indoor Athletic Facility (IAF) connects to the Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall building. The facility is a multi-functional space for sports and events, including a 120-yard synthetic turf football field, batting cages, and a 65-meter track area.
Included in this project is a restructuring of the second floor area, including the renovation and creation of three new offices spaces for football staff and a new head coach’s living room. On the first floor, a new entry lobby was built on the west side of the building and on the south side as well. Adjacent to the south entrance, a brand new “Grab and Go” area was created for player nutrition. The construction of the new IAF required demolition of the Nalley Multipurpose Room, and connection to the new Butts-Mehre Building addition. The new facility is oriented north and south along the east side of Rutherford Street. The facility features state-of-the-art audio visual systems and includes the rehabilitation of three natural grass fields.
