Scope Of Work

Connecting to the Lib Jackson Student Center at Coastal Carolina University, the Student Center Annex Project was designed and constructed to enhance the students experience at Coastal Carolina University. “We are here for our students and without them we wouldn’t be here,” said CCU President David DeCenzo. “This expanded student center is highly-anticipated and needed.” This 2 story, 42,000 SF facility allows the students at Coastal Carolina University to never have to leave campus for their entertainment.

With a 200 seat movie theatre/auditorium, game room, lounge space and a courtyard, the first phase of expanding the Lib Jackson Student Center is only part of what CCU has in store for its students. Also included in the 42,000-square-foot, $12 million addition is conference rooms and retail services, as well as areas for student organizations to meet. A courtyard area between the existing center and Annex I includes an area for entertainment venues. The front facade of the current Student Center was remodeled to include a rotunda lobby and lounge. Since the Lib Jackson Student Center had to remain occupied during construction, careful consideration was made to site logistics and safety barricades. Student traffic patterns had to be reworked and clearly communicated to avoid any mishaps with pedestrian safety. In order to optimize the energy efficiency of this facility, and to assist in gaining a LEED Silver certification, this building was connected to the campus central energy plant located adjacent to this facility. The building is a structural steel construction with light gauge metal stud framing, accompanied with brick veneer and curtain wall exterior skin.

The Student Center Annex project was required to the meet the minimum LEED Silver per state regulations. All LEED credits assigned to Sherman Construction have been approved. 62 points qualifying the project for LEED Gold certification have been approved by GBCI on October 6, 2015.
