Aurora Contractors was awarded the construction at 500 Development Drive as the lump sum General Contractor with Stony Brook University, their third project together. Located on the Stony Brook University Campus, the Stony Brook Innovation and Discovery Center was a core and shell build to allow tenant fit outs to serve their individual researching needs.
The fit-out lobby is formatted to allow for break out exhibit space which opens to a featured skylight two stories above the ground floor. The area is finished with a stone floor and a custom perforated steel partition, allowing space for research presentations. The center also has a high bay lab, which is a two-story open lab intended for large research equipment. Included in the fit-out is finished office space with conference rooms. Individual lab space built will provide tenants to tailor fit the space to their needs.
Aurora Contractors began construction August 2017 and handed over the project on budget in August 2019.
