Aurora Contractors was awarded a contract to renovate the CMT Group’s headquarters in Long Island City, NY. The CMT Group project originally consisted of two, 20,000 square foot buildings which were connected by a covered breezeway. The structures, originally built in the late 1800’s, had considerable structural concerns that required attention prior to starting the overall construction process.
The proposed alteration to these buildings consists of separating the two buildings by eliminating the front and rear walls to the breezeway roof, while maintaining the covered alleyway. One half of the facility would act as the facility’s executive offices, customer service, and tech support operations while the other half would act as the installation area for all vehicles serviced. New construction for the primary office area consisted of, new utilities, continuous perimeter insulation, LED lighting, lobby, luxury vinyl flooring, impact resistant glazing, with approximately 5,000 SF of storage space at the rear of the building. A new façade structure and finish was provided across both Building 1 and 2 to create the appearance of one uniform building.
