Scope Of Work

This parking garage is a four level steel structure with cast in-place concrete slabs, and is approximately 60,000 square feet. The parking garage is experiencing deterioration issues, including spalling concrete, which needs to be addressed. As a part of that work, Ritchie Engineering, PC, retained ECS to perform material sampling and testing of the concrete to assist in determining the correct path of repair. Part of ECS’s scope of work included two areas of Half-cell potential testing and provide documented conditions and provide recommendations related to the investigation.

Half-cell content analysis provides an estimate of the electrical corrosion potential of uncoated rebar for the purpose of determining the corrosion activity of the rebar. An advantage of this test method is its ability to allow for the determination of the probability of corrosion before damage is evident at the concrete surface (through spalling and/or cracking of the concrete, corrosion staining, etc.).
