Scope Of Work
This project was one of the first improvements for I-66 Inside the Beltway in the last 20 years. Previously, I-66 Inside the Beltway was only restricted to carpool vehicles with authorized clean special fuel license plates, Dulles airport travelers, and law enforcement. With the new I-66 Inside the Beltway program, all drivers are able to use the interstate during peak hours, in exchange for paying a toll.
Fort Myer was responsible for constructing and installing eight new electronic toll/registration gantries, shelters and high-tech sensors and electronic message signs necessary to convert an approximate 10-mile section of I-66 to dynamically-priced high-occupancy toll lanes. Additionally, our team handled shoulder reconstruction and drainage improvements around gantry locations.
