Scope Of Work
As part of the recent rehabilitation of the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, Nab removed existing stiffening trusses which were added to the bridge during the mid 1940s. The bridge, built in 1939, was designed and built without the trusses, used to stiffen the bridge. Once the trusses were removed, Nab added wind fairings, wedge-shaped fiberglass panels. This was the first application of composite wind fairings on a major suspension bridge. Now completed, the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge has been restored to its sleek former beauty as designed by famed bridge builder, Othmar Ammann.
