Scope Of Work
This State University project was the first phase a two-phase facilities renovation program. The scope work performed by NorthStar at Martin Stadium comprised two substantial structural demolition components along with a precise concrete cutting requirement.
MEASURE TWICE, CUT ONCE.
The most unique aspect this project was the level precision required. This was not a total removal but rather a surgical structural deconstruction the press box, leaving the existing foundational podium upon which it sat, intact. The engineered demolition approach, designed in collaboration with Grid Engineering, allowed NorthStar to disassemble the press box in a highly methodical, controlled and safe manner. Successful completion this work required synchronized critical crane lifts with secondary equipment reaching out and assisting with the torch cutting the steel.
RECYCLE, RECYCLE, RECYCLE.
Concurrent to the efforts our crews at Press Box level who dismantled the structure and rigged it to be flown down by crane, NorthStar established “lay-down” areas at ground level for the processing and load out materials. These designated areas facilitated the sorting and hauling delineated debris to appropriate recycling locations and fulfillment LEED goals.
SAFETY IS NO ACCIDENT
Working two shifts a day, NorthStar was able to complete this work in 8 weeks without a single safety incident! In addition to the reviewing JHAs (Job Hazard Analysis) and consistent with NorthStar policy, on each day, during each shift, crews conducted a “Stretch and Flex” sessions and a “Tool Box Talks” to keep them physically and mentally prepared for their days.
A JOB WELL DONE
“Dan, Please relay to the NorthStar organization how pleased I have been with the hands on leadership Kevin [NorthStar Superintendent] has provided to your crew out here. This was a very challenging project that included multiple trades working in close proximity….That combined with the hard work all your crews lead to ZERO accidents or incidents.” – Adam Bonner, Superintendent, Hoffman Construction Company.
