Scope Of Work

Challenge: As part of a district-wide facilities upgrade, design a replacement K-5 elementary school to house 525 students and coordinate student accommodations during construction of the new facility.

Solution: W2A worked with EPSD to develop a carefully coordinated time table to allow the demolition of an existing undersized K-2 school and construction of a new, larger K-5 school on the same site, within a fifteen month time frame. Numerous deficiencies in the existing 1950’s vintage building, including poor siting of the building, made renovations and additions impractical. Demolition of the old school took place immediately following the academic year. Students were temporarily housed at Shoemaker Elementary School during the following academic year. The new 3-story elementary school, serving the predominantly walking population of Alburtis and surrounding area, was completed on time and opened in September of the following year. The new school accommodates 525 students and includes a total of 22 classrooms, Library, Cafeteria, Multipurpose Room, Administration Suite, Art Room, Music Suite, Faculty Lounge and Faculty Workroom.
