Scope Of Work
This 62,000 sf, three-story school construction project (off the Kennedy Expressway, Chicago) occupies a 20,000 sf footprint within a three-acre site, with outdoor parking for approximately 200 cars. The project was contracted with multiple prime contractors: plumbing, heating, ventilating, fire protection, general trades, and electrical.
The building includes offices for faculty and staff, classrooms, a computer lab, a resource center/library, gathering spaces for students and community, and an open third-floor terrace. It is equipped with the most current technology, and the design and use of materials also reflect the innovations that take place in this building.
The envelope of the upper portion and parts of the lower portion of the building is a curtain wall system, with sun-shading panels that control the amount of sunlight allowed into the space. The ground floor has a protective rain screen system with orthogonal-shaped windows to bring in natural light.
Work in the contract included site electrical distribution (both for temporary and permanent facilities) and power for exterior and interior lighting, the low-voltage communications system, the fire alarm system, and security. Special electrical systems included uninterruptible power supply, battery power, lightning protection, unit power conditioners, power generation, and photovoltaics.
