HVAC CONSTRUCTION SOLUTIONS

For this client, Illingworth-Kilgust Mechanical applied its knowledge of commercial mechanical systems technology to provide an innovative design/build solution that protects employees’ health, while maintaining energy efficiency and environmental integrity.

To ensure high-quality project delivery, we considered a number of special laboratory heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems needs. Air had to be changed continuously to keep it free of fumes and contaminants. At the same time, the HVAC system had to adjust to varying usage levels, thus helping to control energy consumption. Finally, the client wanted to avoid wasting ground water, a possible outcome when using water-cooled chillers systems.

Our HVAC design/build expertly met these varied requirements. To maintain a healthy, energy-efficient environment, we installed custom variable-air-volume units for air intake and exhaust. These and exhaust hoods with adjustable settings accommodate the facility’s constantly changing usage demands. Installation of sealed combustion boilers provides additional energy efficiencies, while selection of air-cooled chillers preserves groundwater. For maximum responsiveness, the mechanical system incorporates direct digital controls (DDC) that permit flexible centralized management. Finally, we installed the sheet metal and piping that connect the energy efficient HVAC system, and performed final commissioning.

The result is a single-source mechanical systems solution that effectively meets this client’s day-to-day operating requirements, while providing cost-saving energy efficiencies and maintaining a quality environment.
