Scope Of Work
The Velez Organization provided construction management services in conjunction with LiRo Group for the demolition of the Old Chemistry Classroom Building. The previously-existing 16,300-square-foot Old Chemistry “tower” contained chemistry labs, general classroom space and administrative and faculty offices. The first floor contained a large 3,400 square foot lecture hall, as well as a lobby and common space. The basement contained mechanical space, storage areas and some academic support staff space.
The “tower” was demolished down to the structure and the exterior envelope. All MEP systems were replaced. An extension to the existing structure was built and contains three new lecture halls each with 250 seats. The new addition is separated from the Old Chemistry Building by a new atrium/lobby space. An existing lobby and existing lecture hall were demolished to make way for the new addition.
The work included architectural, mechanical, plumbing, hazardous materials abatement, electrical and fire protection services. Additionally, the Project qualified for a minimum LEED Silver Certification rating as required by the USGBC.
