Dixie Anchoring System Steel Piers were installed to stabilize a portion of Fire Station No. 1 that was experiencing differential foundation movement. Five (5) helix steel piers were installed using hand held equipment due to very limited access at three (3) different locations around the building. Each helix steel pier was a 1 ½" x 1 ½" rounded corner solid square steel shaft with a double lead section having a 10", 12" diameter bearing plates followed by a 5' long extension with a 14" diameter bearing plate. The helix steel piers were installed to depths of fifteen (15) and twenty (20) feet. A standard underpinning bracket was attached to the concrete grade beam and to the top of the helix steel pier. The bracket transfers the foundation load to the helix steel piers and stabilizes the structure from future settlement. The helix steel piers were installed to the required torques and depths which allows 20 to 23 kips of vertical load to be supported at each pier.
