Scope Of Work
Mortenson provided design phase and construction phase CM@R services for the University of Arizona's McKale Center Renovation. McKale is home to various athletic teams and host to many public assembly and sporting events, most notably, the championship caliber University of Arizona Basketball team.
Built in 1973, the McKale Center has seen over 40 years of continuous and heavy use. It is the largest in-door public assembly building on the University of Arizona's campus and provides seating for 14,650 spectators.
Phase I of the McKale Center Renovation project included new seats, a new court floor, new concourses to improve access to all arena seating, and additional restrooms and concession spaces to improve the fan experience. New functional and administrative space was constructed in the area released by the re-location of the football program to newly constructed Lowell-Stevens Football Facility. This allowed the reconfiguration, renovation and expansion of the administrative and athletic programs that remained in the McKale Center.
During construction, the facility remained fully occupied by nineteen men's and women's sports programs, the Athletics Department, and other hosted sporting events. The project team worked around the clock, 7 days a week - while accommodating events and team schedules - to deliver a Far Superior experience to our customer.
