Scope Of Work
This project was a work in progress for many years as both, a capital campaign and a historic preservation component. Pastor John Prominski commented on the journey, “We are thrilled to be celebrating the ground breaking of our new facility almost 19 years to the day, after our first Sunday service which was held September 14, 1997. It is not very often that a church buys a bar, levels it and builds a church where the bar once stood”. The referenced former bar was a historic building in Ionia. Though every effort was originally made to preserve or restore the original structure, it was deemed unrepairable and therefore allowed to be demolished.
The new 12,500 sq. ft. church is a single-story brick and block exterior that compliments the surrounding Main Street businesses. The new facility allows Restore Ionia to increase its current 310-person congregation. The building will feature a welcoming entry way, lobby, a kitchen and a large sanctuary. It also has on-site parking which the previous location did not offer. In addition to weekend church services, Restore Ionia is heavily engaged in the community and hosts regular youth services, men’s and women’s ministries and other associated community events. The new church allows for an expansion of these services to better help individuals in need.
