Scope Of Work
This D/B, highly complex, Cardiac Cath Lab project renovated the previous MRI space to accommodate the new Siemens equipment. Due to the very confined space, both sf and height, designing of the space was challenging. There were also challenges in positioning the VA ordered Siemens equipment to connect with mechanical and electrical systems.
The Lab required a new HVAC system using a Trane rooftop unit. The weight of this unit required installation of structural steel support to be placed under the footprint of the structural curb prior to the unit being set. The AHU required a new supply and return air duct system. A new equipment room was located next to the lab to house the electronics for the Siemens equipment. Wall shielding extended vertically to 7 feet from the floor. The viewing port required 1/32” lead equivalent glass and lead lined wall board was used on walls. As the equipment produces a large amount of heat, it required a significant amount of cooling to ensure the electronics do not overheat. Since it is necessary for the equipment to function without interfering with the Cardiac Cath Lab cooling, the equipment room was designed to be cooled by a separate “Liebert” Split System, allowing each area to be cooled and controlled individually.
Infection Control was of the utmost importance as this project was performed in an occupied, functioning Cath Lab and imaging space. Also, to limit disturbances to the facility, a portion of the work was performed during off hours.
