Scope Of Work
Working together with the Village of Hunting Valley, the Cuyahoga County Engineer and The Ohio Public Works Commission The C.W. Courtney Company provided design and construction management for the 2.4 million dollar improvement to re-open Cedar Road which had been closed for a number of years due to a failing and sliding hill side. The project involved improvement of approximately 0.30 miles of Cedar Road (CR23) with new 2 lane pavement on modified horizontal and vertical alignment. The project included a drilled shaft slope stabilization structure, resurfacing of the north and south access ramps from Chagrin River Road (CR 102), a complete overhaul of the storm sewer system and the extension of the existing water main with approximately 1000 linear feet of new waterline. The major obstacle during the project was controlling ground water being produced from numerous natural springs as the new road was being cut into the hillside. Because of preplanning and design considerations given to the possibility of ground water, no major design changes occurred which enabled the project to be completed almost three months ahead of schedule and under budget.
