Scope Of Work
Void Filling Around a Storm Drain Catch Basin with Polyurethane Foam
PROBLEM
A failing storm drain catch basin at a Centerpoint Energy facility in Minneapolis, MN caused serious soil washout and a settling drainage curb. A parking lot was constructed on top of an abandoned gas reservoir. The catch basin and drainage curb that sat on top of the reservoir were inspected to determine the extent and cause of the washout. PolyTech USA discovered that the settling drainage curb that led to the storm drain caused water to washout the soils around the catch basin and from under the drainage curb. The inside of the storm drain was inspected to confirm that there were no cracks in the walls that could be access points for our polyurethane to enter and fill the pipe.
PolyTech USA was able to provide Centerpoint Energy with a quick, cost-effective and reliable solution for lifting the sinking drainage curb and fill voids around the catch basin. The PolyTech Process saved our client weeks of downtime by completing the project in one day.
OUR SOLUTION
After the scope of work had been determined, we were able to begin the PolyTech Process. First, holes were drilled through the drainage curb, around the storm drain cover and through the vertical wall. Ports were installed to allow for the injection of the liquid polymer. Next, the pitch of the drainage curb was corrected and the voids were filled around the storm drain catch basin. The soils around the the drain pipe were heavily saturated. The injected hydrophobic polymer displaced the standing water under concrete. As injections were made around the storm drain, excess water started to flow out of open joints and cracks in the concrete and the reservoir walls. Lastly, injections were made through the reservoir wall filling voids caused from the washout.
The liquid polymer flows and expands deep into the sub-grade soils, filling all voids and stabilizing loosely compacted soils while effectively lifting and leveling the concrete. As the expanding polymer is injected, PolyTech technicians carefully monitor the process to ensure an effective and safe lift. For more complex projects, crews use a series of dial indicators capable of monitoring movement as little as .25mm.
PROJECT SUMMARY
PolyTech USA’s non-invasive concrete lifting process allowed us to quickly raise the settled drainage curb back to a level position and filled all the voids around the storm drain.
WHY OUR PROCESS IS UNIQUE
PolyTech USA offers the industry’s leading technology for concrete lifting and leveling projects. Our trained professionals treat your sunken concrete with high density, polyurethane foam injections and fill voids with our state-of-the-art geofoam fill. Lifting concrete with polyurethane foam, also known as polyjacking or foamjacking, is up to 50 percent cheaper than re-pouring concrete. Our 5/8” (penny-size) drill holes will beat out the competitions large, 1”-2” drill holes. Also, PolyTech USA uses only the best geotechnical polyurethane foams on the market. All of our foams are completely hydrophobic and can be used in the most saturated of soil conditions. At the time of project completion you will receive a warranty against settling to ensure you can hire PolyTech USA with confidence.
