Scope Of Work
The Radioactive Liquid Waste Treatment Facility (RLWTF) is located at TA-50 and has been in operation 1963. The RLWTF has enabled the removal of a variety of low-level nuclear materials from LANL’s radioactive liquid drain system, including plutonium and other transuranic waste produced in the process of fabricating nuclear weapons.
B&D was tasked to upgrade the facility’s systems in Building 230 – Low-Level Waste (LLW) Treatment Building, Building 251 – LLW Utility Building, Building 252 – LLW Drum Storage Area and Building 261 – LLW Effluent Storage Tank Area. Our scope included switchgear, power and lighting rough-in and installation. Additionally, we performed the rough-in and installation of the motor control center, instrumentation and controls systems and telecom address system throughout all of the buildings.
The new facility will allow LANL to continue its current mission as well as have the capability to treat any new waste stream resulting from future expansion of the laboratory.
