Scope Of Work

KPH Construction completed a renovation of the entire 4th floor of the Police Administration Building located in downtown Milwaukee. The project included new offices for Police Chiefs, new open offices for detectives and officers, new interrogation and questioning rooms, a new evidence packaging and drying area, and several new conference rooms. The project also included extensive electrical and data upgrades, a completely new HVAC system, and integration into the building automation system. All the windows were replaced with new energy efficient windows and the exterior walls received spray foam insulation for a thermal upgrade.

KPH handled several change orders during this project, including: various unforeseen conditions, life safety code requirements, mechanical conflicts, and adjustments required in the field that didn’t match what was drawn.

The main challenge was coordination of materials and manpower in a crowded downtown location. There was little room for material storage and dumpsters on the exterior of the 10 story building that was fully operational during construction. The other challenge faced was unforeseen asbestos abatement. Multiple times KPH Construction encountered asbestos containing materials which required partial, or full, shut down of the project in order to properly remediate. In order to avoid significant delays, phasing needed to be coordinated to keep the project on track.
