Take a look at this beautiful honed travertine floor. Travertine is a soft stone, scratches easily and shows imperfections. By diamond honing the stone it will remove and refinish marks, stains and scratches. The finish of travertine can be anything from a rough hone with a rustic antique natural look to a highly polished glossy shine. The benefits of polished travertine is that the surface is less absorbent and easier to clean. The cons of polished travertine is that as in any polished floor like marble it will not hide the imperfections, scratches, etch marks and stains like a honed finish will. Over time as imperfections and marks appear it will not be as obvious on a honed finish as much as on a polished finish. Many times travertine does not need to be sealed. Sometimes it can even be detrimental to the look of the stone and cause the clarity of the stone to become hazy.
