Scope Of Work
Expansion of the South Domestic Terminal at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport was necessary to meet growing passenger demand. Kiewit built a new nine-gate commercial aircraft terminal (Concourse C) and Arrivals Hall.
Under Phase I, crews completed the construction of a structural steel frame and foundation for the terminal. The $159.5 million Phase II work included limited demolition, concrete slab-on-grade and metal decks, structural and miscellaneous steel, fireproofing of 5,800 tons of structural steel framework, masonry, and 292,000 square feet of exterior metal wall panels. The contract also included new mechanical systems, a wide array of electrical equipment and systems, a state-of-the-art baggage handling system and a new taxiway.
Through a collaborative partnering process, Kiewit worked closely with the State of Alaska-Department of Transportation and Public Facilities to overcome scheduling challenges as a result of new security requirements and was able to complete the project significantly earlier than anticipated.
