Scope Of Work
The award-winning new 68,000 sf Blakely Elementary School on Bainbridge Island was built by FORMA on an occupied campus under a GC/CM collaboration.
Housing 20 classrooms; shared learning areas; STEM, art, music and special education spaces; a multi-purpose gym & commons; and a library set into the forest–the new Blakely emphasizes its connection to its wooded site with a central learning courtyard and flexible indoor / outdoor classrooms and unique material selections–most notably: 14 hand-selected, real white oak trees–milled and kiln-dried, and installed as load-bearing structural columns throughout the school.
To accommodate ongoing school operations on the constrained, occupied site, work was carefully sequenced and our team built a temporary playground, temporary parking, and revised drop-off / pick-up areas for staff and parents–all clearly delineated from our construction zones via fencing and signage.
