Eric Schaefer's Bio
Eric holds the position of Vice President and is a 3rd-generation owner of Schaefer General Contracting. While he officially joined the team in March, 2006, during the course of the last twelve years his primary role has been leading the aging care business unit, representing approximately 60% of the firm’s portfolio. Project types span from new facility and campus construction to renovation projects. His business acumen and understanding of the role construction projects play in the Aging Care facility market enable him to deliver solutions with tangible return on investment.
Offering value through the collective experience of the firm’s extensive aging care client base, ethics and responsiveness distinguish him from his peers. As an owner and active Project Manager, he balances his time between those duties involved in furthering the organizational vision and mission and personally leading and overseeing project teams. His portfolio includes clients like Atria, Kindred Healthcare, Exceptional Living, Golden Living, Baptist Homes, Covenant Care, and Diversicare. Eric is a Certified Healthcare Contractor and holds a Master’s in Strategic Finance from IUS. He is actively involved in the Molly Johnson Foundation, is an active member of ASHE, and KSLA.
Eric and his family are also members of St. Michael Catholic Church. He’s been involved with coaching various sports over the last several years and volunteering time for various functions such as the picnic, fish fry, etc.
Eric has been involved with the Molly Johnson Foundation for the last 3 years and serves on their Black & Yellow Ball committee, the largest fundraiser for the foundation each year.
In his free time, Eric enjoys traveling with his family, going to the lake, playing golf, and softball!

Billy Byrne's Bio
Billy joined Schaefer in 2018 as a Project Manager. His career in the construction industry began as a laborer at David Construction where through continuing his education and work dedication he climbed through the ranks to become a Project Superintendent. With over 18 years of experience in the construction industry Billy is enthusiastic about his career with Schaefer Construction. In his own words, “To go to work each and every day at a company where family is everything and co-workers work as a team to build a strong company makes me happy to belong to this amazing organization.”
Billy completed a 4-year Carpentry Apprenticeship Program (ABC), as well as a Construction Management Course (NCCER) at Clemson University.
Billy and his wife Kathryn have three children, Tyler, Linayah and Evelyn. The entire family is passionate about running, and at any given time of the year, is known to be training for their favorite races, which range from 5Ks to full marathons. One day, Billy hopes to complete a full triathlon – just try and stop him. Billy is a water fish tank guru and coral enthusiast. He’s also a skilled wood worker who creates beautiful wooden bowls and pens.
Chuck Rassenfoss's Bio
Chuck joined Schaefer in November, 2005 and holds the position of Project Manager and Estimator. Chuck received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology and an Associate of Science in Construction Technology from Morehead State University. Chuck has managed projects ranging in size and scope from a few thousand dollars up to $23 million. His projects have included both new, out-of-the-ground projects, building stabilizations, interior demolitions and renovations, concrete tilt-ups, metal prefab buildings, parking garages, elevator installations and various types of government projects.
Chuck has been married to his wife Missy for 14 years. He is a father of three daughters, two step daughters and a “Poppy” to one grandson and one granddaughter. Chuck and his family currently attend Northside Christian Church in New Albany. His time outside of work is spent with his large family. It is not unusual for Chuck and his wife to have a house full of grown children, spouses, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and grand dogs each weekend. These weekends are centered around Chuck cooking his family’s favorite meals and enjoying each other’s company. When not entertaining his family at home, Chuck spends his time watching his daughters and grandchildren participating in sports. He has one daughter that plays volleyball at Wake Forest and one daughter that swims for Savanna School of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia.
Chuck enjoys cooking, taking long walks with his wife, riding bikes with his grandchildren, and traveling to spend time with all his daughters. He also volunteers with Habit for Humanity by helping to build houses. Chuck is also a proud volunteer with CMUC Building Committee.
Michael Junga's Bio
Mike joined Schaefer in 2004 and held the positions of Project Manager and Estimator for 8 years, and he has recently re-joined the Schaefer Team as a Senior Project Manager. Mike received a Bachelor of Science in Construction Technology from Eastern Kentucky University in 1991. Mike is a Leader in Energy & Environmental Design and has received several awards including the IDA May Willis Preservation Award, BKD Presidents Award, Award of Excellence – U.S. Marine Hospital, A.B.C. Award of Excellence and Award of Merit. Mike has managed projects all across the U.S. that have varied in size and scope from a few thousand to multi-million dollar jobs. Some of his larger projects with Schaefer include the U.S. Marine Hospital, Atria Evergreen Woods & Windsor Woods, Golden Ventures Camelot, Holy Angels, Kindred Cambridge and Highland Presbyterian among others.
Mike is an excellent communicator and leader who effectively defines roles and responsibilities for his team members. He easily controls all the moving pieces which must come together to make a construction project successful. Mike manages all types of out-of-the-ground projects, as well as building stabilizations, interior demolitions and renovations, elevator installations and more. Mike is experienced with CAD, AutoCad 3D, Sketchup 4, ProEst Estimating, Computer Ease Project Management Document Control Software, iSqFt Bid Management, Microsoft Project, Office, Outlook, and various other programs.
Mike is a Deacon at Lincoln Hills Christian Church in Corydon, Indiana. I also teach bible stories to the children in the pre-kindergarten class on Sundays and help out wherever he can. Mike also assists in the Habitat for Humanity projects in Southern Indiana. As a family the kids also volunteer in band, missions group and youth activities. He also financially sponsors two children oversees through Compassion and World Vision. His top priorities are faith and family. Mike believes when his relationship is right with God, it overflows into every other aspect of life. Raising his children with his wife takes up most of their free time. They enjoy Friday movie night as a family and just spending time outdoors. They homeschool their 9 remaining children at home, where they teach not only text book education, but life skills. They even raise chickens a pig and are hoping to get bees next year. As busy as they are, Mike and his wife are never too busy to have a glass of lemonade with visitors to their home. When they do get a free moment, they take a date night and grab dinner out, just the two of them.
Michelle Ball's Bio
Michelle is an active member of the Kentucky Humane Society. Michelle feels that every animal deserves a loving, caring, and safe home. She is also a proud supporter of Shriners Hospitals for Children and is blessed to have happy, healthy children and grandchildren.
In her free time, Michelle enjoys the outdoors, exploring Louisville’s local parks, gardening, exercising, traveling, visiting historical locations, sporting events, and spending quality time with family and friends.
Michelle believes that “The Schaefer Way” is what makes Schaefer unique: building relationships based upon integrity with a strong focus on customer satisfaction. She feels that there is an amazing rapport within the office which contributes to Schaefer’s success, and that everyone respects one another, works well together, and is always there to help one another out. The combination of all of these qualities allows Schaefer to provide the best service available to clients.
Tyler Kovarik's Bio
Project Manager. Tyler has experience managing all types of projects ranging
from $100,000 to $25 Million. His projects include both new, out-of-the ground projects and interior demolitions and renovations. Tyler has worked in a number of industries including government, medical, healthcare corporate, retail
and private development.
Tyler is quite experienced at reading blueprints, obtaining permits and licenses and ensuring all specifications and regulations are being followed. He has effectively supervised subcontractors in all trades including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, wood framing, roofing, concrete pours, structural steel erection, drywall, plastering, masonry and interior finishing. Tyler is experienced with ProEst Estimating, Computer Ease Project Management Document Construct Software, ISQFt Bid Management, Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office.
Tyler does his best to regularly give to the WHAS Crusade for Children, Kosair Shriners, and St. Jude. He has been involved with the ABC as part of the Membership Committee in the past.
Tyler likes to spend his free time with his family and working in the garage. They enjoy camping, hiking, movies, swimming, and going to car shows. Tyler enjoys the restoration and customization of classic and vintage cars and pickups, especially “International Harvester” brand vehicles. In addition to vintage cars, Tyler also enjoys aviation and is a licensed pilot.

Janet Lively's Bio
Janet Lively has more than 25 years of business development, client relationship and marketing experience which contributes to her style – she fuses practical experience with a strategic, “big picture” approach to provide tangible value to clients and partners. Her career background spans the industries of Architecture, Engineering, Multi-family & Residential Real Estate Development Marketing and Management. She worked with prominent Louisville real estate developers where her roles included Concierge Services for three elite planned residential developments, apartment leasing, management, and country club membership marketing for an Arnold Palmer designed course.
For a decade, as the Vice President of a nationally practicing architectural firm, Janet lead a department of business development, marketing and graphic designers, and was responsible for all internal and external marketing and Business Development functions, including client championing, strategy, budget and implementation. Before joining Schaefer, she used her skills with an Energy Services Business with a focus on turnkey energy efficiency project for their healthcare and commercial vertical markets.
Janet is on the Board of Directors for the Kentucky Derby Festival, Norton Healthcare Foundation, and the GLI Health Enterprises Network. Human causes closest to her heart are ending the cycle of domestic violence and metastatic breast cancer, so she donates time and financial support to the Center for Women & Families, of which she is a Facilities Committee member, and Twisted Pink. She likes to stay active and healthy by training for and running half marathons and going to the gym to remain fit. Outside of Schaefer she loves spending time with close friends and family, golfing, galas, concerts and athletic events, and cooking. She’s a highly “social animal” and enjoys staying busy both professionally and personally.
