Scope Of Work
This project involved the construction of dual six-lane bridges across the Potomac River, with a capacity of 300,000 vehicles per day to relieve major commuter traffic congestion. Demolition of the existing six-lane bridge was part of the scope of work. An on-site concrete yard made the segments that were assembled and permanently post-tensioned to form the bridge arch piers. The project exceeded expectations in schedule, disadvantaged business enterprise participation, and environmental stewardship. Honors include the 2008 ASCE OPAL Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award, the 2008 AASHTO America’s Transportation Award–National Grand Prize, and the 2009 Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Award.
