Scope Of Work
The Redesign and Redevelopment of Howard Bishop Middle School is a large undertaking requiring students and faculty to vacate the campus for the 2020-21 school year. This provided Scorpio with the opportunity to work with the Alachua County School Board, Paul Stresing Associates, and Modular Mobile to design a fully equipped Transition School for Howard Bishop’s students, faculty, and administration. Three potential locations were evaluated and ultimately the site selected was the campus of Westwood Middle School. During this process, it was determined that Transition School would be designed and constructed to continue to be used as a Transition School after the completion of the Howard Bishop project for the extensive planned renovations of Westwood Middle School and Littlewood Elementary School.
The Howard Bishop Transition School consists of (42) Modular Classroom Buildings, (2) Administrative Buildings, a Food Services Building (Dining Hall), (6) Restroom Facilities, (2) Physical Education Buildings, a Choral and Music Facility, and a Clinic Building. The site improvements include a new covered play court, a canopy system connecting all buildings, and a student drop-off/pickup and parking area separate from the Westwood’s campus.
The Scorpio team had to mobilize very quickly to accommodate the shortened timeframe created by the need for additional community input. Upon completion, $3.6M worth of work went into the ground in less than four months.
