The work at the Broadway & West 53rd Street substation encompasses a wide range of disciplines with a great emphasis on the preservation and restoration of many of the historic elements of the landmark structure. Items of historic value include terra cotta and brick façades, bluestone and limestone copings, ornamental wrought iron gates, wood and ornamental wrought iron staircases, grand copper-clad kalamein doors and a copper-clad penthouse staircase enclosure. In addition, the contract also includes lead abatement, painting, roof replacement, structural member reinforcement, structural steel and sidewalk/sub-surface vault replacement and all associated and incidental mechanical, electrical and plumbing required for completion of the work. The work at the Pelham-St. Ann’s substation consists of lead abatement, painting, masonry repair, coping replacement, structural steel repair, roll-up gate replacement, security chain link fence replacement, roof replacement, concrete sidewalk replacement, replacement of asphaltic concrete pavement along with its contaminated soil and sub-base material. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing trades are also a part of the overall scope. The Pelham-Tiffany substation is a three-story subterranean structure. The work consists of lead abatement, painting, crack injection, structural concrete crack and spall repair, structural steel repair, main entrance ship’s ladder and Bilco hatch replacement and roll-up gate replacement. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing trades are included.
