The Salvation Army provides downtown Los Angeles with the Robert and Tilly Sinnet Youth and Community Center: a 36,676 square foot renovation and addition in the Civic Center area. The building program spaces include a gymnasium, natatorium, multi-purpose space, commercial kitchen, teenage center, dance studios, cardio and weight room studios, administration and support offices. This historical building offers children and families a place to be physically and mentally active in a safe communal form. 

The overall design consists of a contemporary style, with a warm and inviting color palette, finishes and textures, which allows a direction of movement throughout each space. The exterior design includes a facade upgrade with a new storefront barrel vault glass entry canopy and exterior windows, allowing natural light and articulation of the building's street frontage to shine through. The interior design includes large, operable wall partitions, allowing flexibility between program spaces. In addition, solar tubes and clerestory windows are provided to optimize natural lighting throughout the facility to create a warm, harmonious environment.
