Scope Of Work

For medical professionals and patients alike, there's nothing more important than the quality or functionality of a healthcare facility. That's why Barton Malow took on the renovations for the Roosevelt Warm Springs Rehabilitation and Specialty Hospitals (RWSH) in Georgia. With intricate overhauls of their Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital (IRH) and Long Term Acute Care Project (LTACH) that featured over 84,000 square-feet of renovation, this project serves as a testament to our commitment to communities and the people who call them home.

Overcoming Challenges

Working in an occupied facility provided its own challenges that were unique to this project. Open and continuous communication with the project team played a big part in the success of the project, including and not limited to the review of as-builts and unforeseen conditions the team encountered during demolition. However, with consistent collaboration that included impromptu meetings and consistent requests for information (RFI), we circumvented hurdles and came out ahead. RWSH also had historical importance that needed to be included. Given that it's listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, we ensured the exterior façade remained as close to the original design. With consultants from the Board of Regents and architectural entities who oversaw the project to guarantee Barton Malow delivered on maintaining the historic integrity of the site.

Turning Communication into Results

With government agencies, designers and user groups all under the umbrella for this massive renovation, communication was vital. The planning phase featured all stakeholders combining their ideas for the most efficient way to not only preserve this one-of-a-kind site, but also give specialized upgrades to the LTACH and IRH. The project provides enhanced patient services by offering 24 all-private LTACH beds and 30 all-private IRH beds.

In addition, patient facilities saw upgrades with ventilator rooms, bariatric rooms and isolation rooms, which were updated to current standards. We didn't stop there. Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and medical gas systems were brought up to code. Finally, with forthcoming improved site arrival and main entrance for the facility, we're ensuring a top-to-bottom improvement for this historic site.
