Scope Of Work

In the heart of the Motor City, Barton Malow, in partnership with Hunt and White Construction, took on a massive effort to give the city a new home for the Detroit Red Wings, Pistons, and more. This 20,000-seat arena serves as crucial step in the revitalization of Detroit, as it not only generates a significant amount of business, but is also a place for residents and tourists to come together for a community feel and endless entertainment.

Through Little Caesars Arena, Barton Malow Hunt White (BMHW) helped make history by creating a facility that made it possible for all four Detroit professional teams to play within four blocks of each other.

Budget and Schedule

The overall contract amount for Little Caesars Arena was $862,000,000. This massive scope included the late addition of making room for the Detroit Pistons basketball team—the arena was originally intended for only the Red Wings, Detroit’s hockey team. Coupled with an aggressive 28-month turnaround, BMHW took the challenge head-on. The team successfully completed the project on schedule, within budget, and of quality that surpassed expectations.

Bold Design and Construction

The team executed on the bold ideas that Little Caesars Arena presented. The seating is actually built 40 feet below grade, creating a truly intimidating bowl for rival teams. The arena also features gondola seating, with a massive, suspended steel frame hanging from the roof. And with the largest SkyDeck modular tension wire grid system in the world, crews can access hard-to-reach equipment without the need for additional safety measures.

Community Impact

With Little Caesars Arena, BMHW has ushered in a new wave of opportunity. The BMHW team was committed to creating careers and training outlets for the citizens of Detroit. The team worked closely with small and medium-sized subcontractors throughout construction, and even facilitated seven workforce career expos to get Detroiters access to training and apprenticeships within the trades.
