Scope Of Work

Pape-Dawson was the civil engineer for the $1.28 billion Toyota Tundra Assembly Plant and $300 million onsite suppliers’ facility located on a 2,000-acre site south of San Antonio. Placed into service in late 2006, the plant includes the main assembly plant, 2.5 miles of roadway, onsite suppliers, and truck distribution facilities. Services included site selection; platting; boundary, topographic, and tree surveys; property entitlements; floodplain studies; hydrologic/hydraulic studies; traffic engineering; grading, roadway, and utility plans; and construction administration services.

To successfully complete this fast-paced project, three Pape-Dawson project teams worked simultaneously on platting, floodplain studies, and traffic management plans to meet the project schedule. We worked with CPS Energy to move transmission lines and install a power substation and 9,000’ of new lines, as well as with SAWS to construct water mains and sewer lift stations.

The site presented multiple challenges related to site planning, building placement, grading, and drainage design. We faced challenges in assembling and surveying multiple property lines that had not been surveyed for decades. The drainage and grading plan involved 3.6 million cubic yards of earthwork, 5 onsite drainage detention basins, and 25,000 LF of storm drains.
