Scope Of Work
As a subconsultant, Pape-Dawson provided environmental services, conducted flood studies, and provided channel design for the Runway 3-21 extension project located between East Bitters Road and Starcrest Drive within the San Antonio International Airport property. The City of San Antonio proposed to extend Runway 3-21 at the San Antonio International Airport to the northeast by 1,000’ to remove restrictions for certain departing aircraft during periods of high temperature.
We also completed a jurisdictional waters/wetlands evaluation and submitted a Section 404 NWP 14 to the USACE for Salado Creek (Middle Reach) in the area of the proposed runway extension to identify the likely occurrence of jurisdictional waters and wetlands within the portion of the Salado Creek floodplain affected by the project.
An environmental assessment of the proposed runway project concluded that impacts to Black-Capped Vireo, Plains Spotted Skunk, and migratory birds could result from the runway extension. Pape-Dawson conducted a site reconnaissance of the project area to determine if habitat existed for these endangered or threatened species. Our investigation found it unlikely that Black-Capped Vireo or Plains Spotted Skunk would inhabit the proposed project site.
