Scope Of Work
Pape-Dawson was the civil engineer for the 470,000 square foot Microsoft MSN Live Data Center, located in Westover Hills at the intersection of Rogers Road and Wiseman Boulevard. We began this project by assisting the client in selecting a site based on known constraints such as building setbacks, easements, floodplains, and drainage issues. We also completed a Phase I environmental site assessment for the presence or likely presence of hazardous substances on the site.
The civil site design included facility design, raised floor design (slab at different grades), coordination of all utilities (e.g., sanitary sewer, domestic, recycled and fire water), dual-feed service for communication redundancy, fiber optics routing, dual-feed service from different substations for electrical redundancy, back-up generators, and secured monitored entrance and exit.
With assistance from Pape-Dawson, Microsoft chose a site in the Westover Hills Master Planned Development. This site was selected because of its proximity to major transportation networks, existing available utilities, and an educated employment base. The site is located near other similar data centers. Westover Hills is deed restricted to ensure the quality of development.
