Scope Of Work
The South Windsor Fire Station project involved the construction of a new 24,000 square foot Town facility which houses one of three of the Town’s fire departments as well as the Town’s ambulance services. Cutter was hired as the Construction Manager for the project. The project involved two years of Department of Environmental Protection reviews, multiple town agency reviews and was bid in the second quarter of 2009. The construction of the building included heavy structural steel and concrete foundations, as well as reinforced masonry and cold formed metal framing. The building was designed as a first responder building, requiring the heavy design/construction parameters. Interior finishes included typical paintings and coatings, terrazzo floors, carpet and resilient flooring, and acoustical ceiling systems. The design incorporated a large diesel stand-by generator that allows the facility to operate at full capacity in times of power loss. This building has the latest in vehicle exhaust systems which allows simultaneous breakaway and opening of the overhead doors in the event of an emergency. Not only was this facility designed as a fire station and ambulance facility, the design also included teaching and seminar facilities. Another unique feature of this fire station features an antique apparatus bay with a glass curtain wall that faces the street and houses one of the towns first fire trucks.
