Scope Of Work
Genesee Dam No. 2 is a roller-compacted concrete (RCC) dam comprised of 34,500 cubic yards of concrete and standing 102 feet tall. The Genesee Dam No. 2 holds water pumped from Bear Creek for later use as drinking water. The new dam holds approximately one hundred acre feet of water – about 32 million gallons. The project also included an outlet structure, blasting quarry and a RCC processing plant – the concrete was blasted, crushed and mixed onsite.
The team placed 40 lifts in just 21 days, completing the project on schedule despite winter storms and cold weather during construction. The use of RCC meant quick cure times, allowing the team to pour the dam’s one-foot roller-compacted concrete lifts in quick succession. Once a layer was leveled and compacted, the next lift was poured almost immediately.
